29th August 2010.

A windy but bright Sunday morning on a Bank Holiday weekend and neither of us felt like going out in the car. Around midday we decided to walk from home to the Battery at Morecambe to enjoy the sea air. The walk itself was around 6 miles and a very pleasant way of spending a few hours. Here are a few pictures from along the way.

From home it is but a short walk down to Half Moon Bay where the ship from the Isle of Man was just coming in. This times this picture at around midday.

It was quite a breezy day but still pleasantly warm as we headed towards Heysham.

Black Combe across the bay.

Entering the old Heysham Head site once a great entertainment complex.

After the demise of Heysham Head this piece of land was used as an International Go-Kart track. Now it is owned by the National Trust who also own the Barrows towards where we are headed.

The Coniston Fells still part of Old Lancashire.

Approaching St Patrick's Chapel

St Patricks's Chapel and the Stone Graves.

St Peters Church.

The way ahead.

A look back to the village and the Barrows

A popular spot for the dog walkers.

This section of the promenade known as The Cliffs as been recently renovated as part of the sea defence programme

A launching point for the boats.

Another look back to Heysham

And to where we are headed.

They are only low tides today which is just as well.

We are now at the Battery where the Spartina grass as got a good hold.

Time for a cuppa at the Breeze Cafe or the Microwave as I like to call it.

There are a few windsurfers about.

The memorial to Gerald Forsberg.

He was one of life's gentlemen....As a 15 year old myself and another young lad named Richard Palmer had the honour of rowing the dinghy that accompanied him on the first ever double crossing of Morecambe Bay. We set off from Morecambe to Grange and then back again.

Looks fun.

On our way back now and at the launching slipway a young one is chancing getting wet feet.

Meanwhile Edith makes friends with a local moggie.

The Isle of Man boat that arrived earlier is just departing. Must be around 2:15pm

Main Street, Heysham Village.

The old entrance to the Heysham Head complex, now a private residence.

The Harbour and Power Stations.

Nearly home now so we didn't bother.
