25th January 2012.

After being stuck in the house all the morning feeling a little sorry for myself I decided around 1300hrs to have a walk down to Heysham Harbour. I left the car at our son's house who lives nearby and walked down to gain the sea wall near Red Nab. I then walked along the sea wall which follows the perimeter fence of Heysham 2 Power Station to the South Roundhead of the harbour to wait for the Isle of Man ferry to sail. The walk itself was only around 3 miles in length and I have put the album in the "Local Pictures" as it seems more relevant.

I left the car at my son's house and walked down to access the sea wall just south of the Power Stations near Ocean Edge caravan park. It was quite overcast at this point but to the south the views were clear. That's Blackpool Tower sticking up in the centre.

I didn't take any pictures as I followed the sea wall northwards towards the harbour. This was the first as I arrived at the South Roundhead.  Across the bay Humphrey Head and Hampsfell can be seen.

A view of the harbour entrance. The north roundhead as been repaired fairly recently after damage was done by a coming together of ship and stone.

Looking across the harbour. The "jetty" near the north roundhead used to be where the Fleetwood trawlers took fuel on board before sailing to Iceland back in the 1950's/60's. To the right is the Centrica gas base for the Morecambe Bay field.

Looking along the almost empty harbour. The ships for Ireland will have sailed this morning to return later. The Ben-my-Chree is due to sail for the Isle of Man shortly and is the reason I'm here.

In the meantime a picture of the two Power Stations. The lower buildings nearest to me are the cooling water pumphouses.

I have a few minutes to a wait and so walk back to the South Roundhead for a few pictures...

Back at the South Roundhead and looking S'wards to the old south pier which seems to get less every time I come here...

....and along the sea wall from whence I came.....is it brightening?

Towards the Fylde coast and Blackpool Tower is still there.

A cloud-topped Black Combe across the bay.

It is now around 14:05hrs and a few minutes earlier than due the Ben-my-Chree moves away from the quayside.

Quickly donning a wetsuit and snorkel I captured this image as she moved down the harbour.  :-)

And in the matter of a few moments she's leaving the harbour for Douglas in the Isle of Man.

A quick hobble to the South Roundhead for a picture of her rounding the south pier.

And there she goes....she should arrive in Douglas around 17:45hrs.

Mission completed, a look back as I make my way back.

Almost back to where I leave the sea wall at Red Nab....

....and the Ben-my-Chree is just a dot on the horizon.

I've pasted a few sunset pictures from this spot recently on Facebook where they were well received so for those who haven't seen them here is one of them.
