Visions of Cumbria

The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.

1st March 2010

On our way hope from a walk nearby we decided to stop off at Coniston and walk down to the Bluebird Cafe to see how things were after the November '09 floods.

We left the car near the school and walked down to the waterside. This shows Coniston Old Man from Bannock Stone bridge.

Church Beck

One of the Coniston Launches had just arrived at the jetty.

Feeding time, but any time now he could be overpowered.

The Bluebird Cafe is still undergoing an extensive refit after the floods but the portacabins are bright and warm and open for business.

After a bite to eat we set off along the waterside permissive path back to Coniston.

A lot of the shingle beach seems to have been washed into Coniston Water and new paths have been laid.

I wonder where that footbridge at the other side of the fence as come from.

Walking back into the village.

As we passed the churchyard I could see plenty of snowdrops and a few crocuses but it was this that caught my eye.....our first open Lakeland daffodil of 2010.

Ruskin's grave

A quick stop at Brown Howe for my favourite view up Coniston Water

In close up.

Across the water to Selside
