Date:            25th May 2007                 Distance:    7.50 miles              Ascent:         2549 feet                   Time:            5h 45m

Route:           We left the car at the top of the Wrynose Pass near to The Three Shires Stone

We left the car at the summit of the Wrynose Pass near The Three Shire Stone

The Three Shire Stone used to mark the county borders of Westmorland, Cumberland and Lancashire north of the sands before regional reorganisation

The stone was made in 1816 for the Furness roadmaster William Field but was not erected until after his death in 1860. In 1997 the stone was broken into 4 pieces probably in a road accident. It was restored in 1998 by Gordon Greaves of Troutbeck who coincidentally walked with us on Walk No.15

We took a path from the summit heading for Red Tarn
