We didn't leave home until just after 10am to do this walk in the hope that the day would brighten a little. In that respect we were disappointed. Although the clouds were above the tops it remained a dull, grey day although it was fine and warm and as ever the Langdale valleys never disappoint.

Arriving late at Elterwater we parked just outside the village and walked down into it.

Colourful displays at the Judith Boyes Studio.

A quiet Brittania.

Elterwater Bridge and after recent rain there is more water coming down the beck.

A look back as we walk along the path to Elter Water.

Loughrigg fell ahead.

A short stretch through the woods.

Not the best view I've seen here by a long , long way.

Not much clearer in close up, but it's fine and we are out.

Lingmoor from Elter Water.

Wetherlam.

We crossed the footbridge which saves roadwalking at Skelwith Bridge.

Skelwith Force is below us but out of sight.

Cottages at Park House.

A glimpse of higher things, the Fairfield and Helvellyn fells.

Passing through Park farm.

The path now descends to Colwith Bridge.

The well trodden path to Colwith Force.

Colwith Force.

And from higher as we continue on our way to High Park.

The path rises slowly through the woods....

...to emerge into the open with views into Little Langdale.

After passing through we walked along the lane towards Stang End.

Lingmoor across the valley of Little Langdale.

Walking through Stang End with Wetherlam ahead.

Looking to the Wrynose Pass.

A picnic and a good chat at Slater Bridge.

The bowl of Little Langdale.

Wetherlam over Dale Head farm as we make our way back to Elterwater.

Elterwater YHA

Sadly the ice-cream man was missing today so it was a visit to the Brittania for a cooling drink.
