The May Day Bank Holiday weekend means that it is the Wray Village Scarecrow weekend and an opportunity for us to link a short walk from Hornby to visit. The weather forecast was for a bright start to the day but soon becoming wet. With this in mind we were parked up at Hornby and walking just before 9am. This would also mean that Wray village would still be fairly quiet when we arrived there.

We parked the car at Hornby in the small free car park next to the River Wenning.

Hornby Castle across the River Wenning from the road bridge.

It was a quite bright and sunny start to the day as we crossed the A683 to take a path alongside the river towards Wray.

River Wenning

Hornby Castle across a striped field.

There are a couple of RoW's across the fields but it is far easier to carry on along this rough track.

Looking across to Claughton Moor across silage fields.

A look back.

There was some sort of caravan club meeting going on in one of the fields as we approached Wray.

Hazy views to Gragareth and Whernside..

...and to the flat summit of Ingleborough.

Almost there now as we enter a lane...

....to emerge by the B6480 at Wray.

Having crossed the road we took a path alongside the River Hindburn...

...with views over the silage fields to the village.

We left the River Hindburn which turned off here to follow the River Roeburn into...

Wray.

It was still fairly quiet when we arrived in the village which made getting pictures a lot easier than usual. I believe the them of this years show was anniversaries. Here are just a few of the scarecrows on show as we walked back through the village.

Our return was along the same route..

....back to the bridge at Hornby.
