The pictures on these pages are either Local or Holiday pictures that do not appear in the walks.

We were staying for a few days at a farm cottage near Dolgellau. The farm, Maes coch, was located 900feet up the northeastern slope of the Cadair Idris massif but our walk today would not reach such dizzy heights. Instead it would follow quiet lanes around the side of Cadair Idris to the Llynnau Gregenen which are two small lakes which at an height of 780 feet overlook the Mawddach esturay and Barmouth. The walk although on good, mainly tarmacced lanes was quite long at 15 miles with an ascent of about 1800 feet

Maes coch......A delightful setting at the very end of the lane up from Dolgellau

Looking back as we set off. The farmhouse with Cadair Idris behind

Looking over Dolgellau (hidden) to the hills beyond.

Another view of Cadair Idris

Llyn Gwernan which we passed on the way

I think this was taken from around Ty-nant which is the start of one of the paths up Cadair Idris. I seem to recall there being plenty of cars parked there. It was such a hot day I didn't really envy them there climb up

Not too far now. The sloping path opposite is the path we returned on but thats another story.

Llynnau Gregenen. What a magnificent setting andso peaceful

It was so hot by now even this normally appealing little climb was out of bounds.

The camera which I had at this time had been playing up a little so I was hoping that it was going to last out

Unfortunately after taking a few of the Mawddach estuary and Barmouth of which this was the best it gave up. Back at the cottage I did manage to get it working again (a good bang on the table) and it managed another couple of days before finally rolling over.
