A day out to St. Bees, Whitehaven and Wasdale
June 6th 2007
St. Bee's Head , the start of the Coast to Coast walk
We arrived as a group of four walkers were about to set. One couple were Polish but had lived in the UK for 20 years. They were being accompanied by 2 friends from Poland. The lady was the only one who went to wet her boots in the Irish Sea before setting off.
Off they go!.....Only 190 miles to go
The walk over St.Bee's itself is a pleasant walk
After the vist to St. Bee's we made our way to Whitehaven
Memorial to the Miners
An old cannon with a bit of history
The outer harbour wall
A small angling boat sets off
Two larger trawlers follow
After lunch in Whitehaven we made our way to Wasdale , parking by the Greendale road. Looking to Buckbarrow.
and further right to Greendale Gill
Continuing right to Middle Fell
Further right and Yewbarrow appears
Later to become Britains best view. Pity it was a bit hazy
