3rd August 2008 -- Conistone Dib and Conistone Pie
Please find below some pictures sent to me by Colin & Joan Ainsworth from a walk they did recently from Conistone in the wonderful Wharfedale valley. The walk took them through the Limestone gorge of Conistone Dib which at its narrowest is little more than 3 feet wide. After following the Dib upwards they took the Dales Way to Conistone Pie before returning to Conistone down the old packhorse route called Bycliffe Road or Lane.
The bridge over the River Wharfe near Conistone where the walk started.

Conistone Dib.
The initial stages of the gorge are very narrow in places.
Leaving the narrow section with Wassa hill to the left
I think this is the final section before reaching the Dales Way.....It's about 20 years since we did this walk and the memory fades.
Looking back and across Wharfedale. On the opposite fellside Mastiles Lane can be seen. This runs from Malham Tarn over the moors to Kilnsey.
This is Bycliffe Road or Lane an old packhorse route from Wharfedale to Nidderdale
