On Friday the 16th January 2009 we decided to have a run to Sedbergh, which although now in Cumbria is also in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a lovely old market town overlooked by the Howgill Fells and well known for it's public school. We then made our way to Kirkby Lonsdale where we had a short walk along the River Lune.
Having parked the car we walked across for this view of St Andrews Church with Winder behind.

Main Street.....now sadly tarmacced.
After the 2001 Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, the Sedbergh booktown project was started in order to encourage an increase in the number of visitors. The company, Sedbergh Book Town, was set up in 2003 to develop a community of businesses involved in selling, writing, publishing and designing books and other publications.
Winder from Main Street
The school rugby field with Middleton Fell behind.
Winder at 1551 feet is not particularly high but it dominates the town

There was still plenty of water in the river from the previous days rain.
Ruskin's View....so called because of a comment made by John Ruskin when he saw a painting by J M Turner which went "The Valley of the Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale is one of the loveliest scenes in England"
