3rd November 2009
With Edith at her brothers and a big backlog of walks to catch up on, I stayed at home until around noon working on the website but when the day brightened a little I decided on a walk along the promenade. I left the car near the Battery at the west end of town and walked to our friends cafe in the town centre. It was a little breezy but the tides weren't particularly high ones so the promenade in the main, remained dry.
A close up of the Stone Jetty and Arnside Knott from the start
The "new" sand defence boards are working to some extent but that sand wants pulling back down or it'll soon be over the top.
This guy was taking advantage of perfect conditions for wind surfing.
The water is only a few feet deep where he is.
Grange over Sands and Hampsfell catch a little sun
Just a bit of spray to dodge today
The new lifeboat station (Home for the Hover) for the Hovercraft is now complete and in service.
The Linda
A beautiful shape. Built in GRP she was cast from a mould taken from the old fishermans lifeboat "Sir William Priestley" which was decomissioned when the RNLI took over.
The "new" central beach. 10's of thousands ot tonnes of sand was placed here beween the rock groynes and it is stying put.
"Our Eric"....Morecambe's favourite son. He even took his stage name from the town.
On my way back and a look at the newly refurbished Midland Hotel. Still not been in it, the prices may scare me!
Back at the Battery and there are now a couple enjoying the conditions
