On a showery day we decided to visit Ambleside for some shopping and also to see how the town had fared after the recent floods. Thankfully most of the problems seem to be at Waterhead.
The Lake District is not closed. Please come and visit.
Shopping done and it was a walk up Stock Ghyll
There is still plenty of water coming down but not as much as a few days ago.

We then made our way to Waterhead which seems to have caught most of the flooding
Water levels are still high
But at least it as left the road now
The car park at Waterhead is partly flooded and closed off
The Wateredge Inn....I read somewhere that the water was up to the windows. According to the BLOG it is temporarily closed due to unprecendented flooding.
The Rothay Bridge from the Ramblers Footbridge
Our return to Ambleside would be via the Under Loughrigg road to Miller Bridge. I am stood with my back to the River Rothay which when in flood came over the retaining wall behind me to demolish the road wall opposite and also flooded the holiday lets at either side of me.
The Rothay is to the left. At its highest it came over or breached the wall to my left and looks like it also went over the wall shown.
Today it was fast flowing but at an acceptable level. The canoeists were debating whether to come over the weir .
Against the flow......Eventually one of them did come over but found getting back more difficult.
Miller Bridge The footbridge over Stock Ghyll. The rubbish shows
how high the water as been.
