10th January 2010
Two short walks today around the Sandside but as neither was very long I have placed them in the Other Pictures section rather than the walks. The first walk was from the promenade at Sandside towards Arnside first along the beach and then on the old railway line. We didn't go into Arnside but instead on returning to the car we drove the short way to Dallam Park for another short stroll there. The temperature today was a nearly tropical +4C but there's still plenty of ice and snow about.
We left the car on the promenade at Sanside which is a couple of miles to the north of Arnside. Although the River Kent is tidal at this point there was plenty of ice in the estuary.
You'll see a bit of this chappie today....Whitbarrow, one of my favourite Outlying Fells
Walking along a snowy beach towards Arnside with the Knott ahead. I should mention that although fine ans sunny today was not as clear as of late.
Looking back as we leave the beach to make our way up to the old railway line trackbed.
Looking down the estuary to Arnside on the left with Grange on the other side.
A close up across a snowy saltmarsh to Hampsfell another of Wainwrights Outlying Fells of Lakeland
Here you are again....Whitbarrow across the snow
Looking over to Arnside. We decided to avoid icy pavements and have another short walk nearby instead.
Arnside Knott.
Having made the decision we returned to the car.
Almost back at Sandside
I promise, that's the last one of it.
As young lads we would cycle here or to Arnside to go "treading" for flounders. It would be a bit cold for that today!!
From Sandside it was but a 2 minute drive to Dallam Park
Milnthorpe Bridge over the River Bela
The snow had been well walked upon but was still crispy
Elegant on water....unlike those at Glasson yesterday
Heading towards Milnthorpe
We turned about at the old bridge.
Having fun....there were quite a few about but I was expecting more.
A quartet of stags on t'other side of the river.
Lots of big snowballs about
Dallam Tower
There were more people on sledges on this side.
