20th January 2010

A visit to Ambleside to get Edith a new fleece and myself some socks gave me the opportunity to take a few pictures. The day was overcast and views were limited but hey!...this is the Lake District in winter. On the way back we called in at Bowness for a look around.

We left the car near Waterhead to walk into Ambleside. It was another dull day but fine.

The highe fells of Langdale were barely visible

Still on schedule for an Easter re-opening after last years floods.

On the way into town we walked through Borrans Park

This is one of my favourite places to just sit and let the world go by. However today it was to cold for my liking.

So here is a short video to let you see the views on a poor day.

From Borrans Park we walked to the old Roman fort of Galava

The snow is now quite patcht even on the higher fells.

St Mary's Church with Wansfell Pike behind

We are now in Rothay Park with Stock Ghyll (l) and Miller Bridge and the River Rothay (r)

Walking into Ambleside the Fairfied Horseshoe dominates the skyline.

The Bridge House built in the 17C to avoid land taxes straddles Stock Beck. This quaint house is thought to have been either built for an apple store or summer house for the former Ambleside Hall although there are tales of a family with six children living here....be a bit crowded!

On the way home we stopped off at Bowness for a little walk
