Visions of Cumbria

The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.

31st July 2008

The weather forecast for today wasn't to promising and I wasn't feeling all that bright so any serious walking was forgotten about. Instead we decided to catch up with a couple of outstanding things we had been wanting to do for some time. The first of these to to visit the recently opened shop "Love the Lakes". The shop is owned and run by Louise & Sean McMahon. This is a link to the website for the shop but please note that it is still being updated....Love the Lakes the link will open in a new page. It was Sean who first suggested that I start a website and gave his help throughout the intial stages. If you are ever in the the Bowness area please pop in, you won't be dissapointed.  The second outstanding visit for some new boots for Edith for which we went to Ambleside. Anyway enough of me rambling on, below are some pictures from our visit, sorry about the quality it wasn't much of a day weatherwise.

We arrived at Bowness about 10:30am and parked up near to Cockshott Point with a view towards Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick

Just in time to see the MV Swan pass between Cockshott Point and Belle Isle

I thought the Air Show was last Sunday?

Five small sailing boats with youngsters aboard being towed out into the mere.

Although it was a rather murky day with some very light rain there were plenty of folk about

My favourite of the Windermere Steamers.....the MV Tern....beautiful classic lines.

Love the Lakes

Sean was out walking on the fells today with Casper but we sort of press-ganged a somewhat reluctant Louise in a picture.

St Martin's Church at Bowness

Back down to the waterfront for a cuppa before we set off for Ambleside.

A view to the somewhat hazy Langdale Fells from near Millerground on our way to Ambleside.

I had forgotten that it was Ambleside Sports today and the final mile to Waterhead was a little slow but not that bad. We parked at Waterhead and walked into Ambleside.

Looking back to the Waterhead YHA from Borrans Park

Nab Scar, Heron Pike, Great Rigg and Fairfield from Borrans Park

Wansfell Pike

The spire of St Mary's church at Ambleside

The Bridge House at Ambleside

While Edith was getting her new boots I decided to have a quick walk up to Stockghyll Force

I was hoping that there might have been a bit more water coming down but afraid not!

Back down to Ambleside and the Salutation

And finally ....back to Waterhead for a cuppa.
