The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.
24th October 2008
We had actually planned a walk at Staveley today but when we got there we found that we had somehow forgotten to take our waterproof jackets. Not wanting to venture far without them we had a short walk around Staveley then moved to Bowness to see how high the levels were in Windermere. Finally we stopped off at Fell Foot Park the NT Centre at the foof of Windermere.
We were meant to be going up Reston Scar, but having forgotten the waterproof jackets plans were rapidly changed.
We settled instead for a little walk around the village.
Plenty of water coming over the weir at Barley Bridge.
The River Kent looks quite peaceful here but the water is moving quite fast.
Reflections near the lower weir
Staveley Park farm and wet fields.
Craggy plantation
A close up of the salmon leap at the lower weir as we crossed the footbridge
Stavely main street.
From Staveley we drove to Bowness on Windermere to see how high the lake was after the recent rain. Here we are at Cockshott Point looking towards Belle Isle and Claife Heights.
The water level was very high
The Jetties and promenade under water
I thought this was bad enough but over the next few days after more torrential rain it would be worse.
From Bowness we took the A592 towards Newby Bridge stopping off at the NT Centre at Fell Foot Park.
The NT shop was flooded. Worse was to follow over the weekend as after more rain the main cafe building would also flood
Whilst we were there it was just clear of the water.
Below are a few pictures that Scott McKinnell a fellow member of the Online Fellwalking Club sent me of The Hoad at Ulverston
Both links will open in a new page
And finally Scott's dog "The Buzzer" goes tree climbing.
