The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.
These pictures were taken on the 17th December 2008 when we had a trip out to Grange over Sands. I was due at the hospital later in the day to see the Rheumatologist about my medication "problems" so even though it was a nice day we couldn't do anything in the way of walking, anyway my knee was giving me some gyp. I have had a number of enquiries as to how I went on by E_Mail and by PM's from the various forums most of which I have now hopefully answered. To save having to type it all out everytime I have used the copy/paste function. For those who may be interested I will leave a copy at the end of this page.
On the way a stop to get some pictures of Whitbarrow, this one showing White Scar
Low Fell farm and Buckhouse Wood
Having arrived at Grange and parked up we walked along towards the railway station. That's my old favourite across the estuary, Arnside Knott.
A glimpse of the ornamental pool through the trees
"Beware -- Low Flying Ducks!"
Promenade preening
Time for a brew , so it's across the top end of the pool to the shops.
Leaving Edith to go in and order, and pay on the pretence of getting a picture.
While Edith had a look around the shops I nipped down to the pool
Having found Edith we walked up through some woods to get this picture over the houses of Arnside Knott
St Paul's Church , Grange over Sands
The Clock Tower at Grange over Sands and we best a wiggle on, I'm due at Lancaster at 2pm
Main Street
A final view of Arnside Knott across the salt marsh and Spartina grass that is the foreshore at Grange
When I saw the Rheumatology
Nurse she was most surprised with my reaction to the Leflunomide saying that
reactions after 2 days were very rare. However she accepted that I've never had
anything like that at all and agreed that it was right to stop it.
She next said that we were running out of "Options" in regard to treatment. When
I asked her to explain this as I thought there were many other options such as
gold infections and TNF drugs she said that because of the Lung problems I had
with the Methotrexate these were not advisable. They are going to arrange for me
to have some more tests on my lungs to see if the problem was caused by (a) the
Methotrexate or (b) by the RA itself and if it was the first and as cleared up
then Gold or TNF drugs may be a possiblity.
They are going to start me on Sulfasalazine which is similar to Methotrexate but
not as strong to see how I go with that. She did give me another shot of
steroids in the backside as the last one was wearing off fast which should get
me over the Xmas/New Year period ok.
If the Sulfasalazine doesn't work or isn't suitable for me then they will have
to consider steroid tablets which I don't know too much about as yet.
