Visions of Cumbria

The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.

16th February 2009

We decided to have a run over the Kirkstone Pass to Patterdale but someone had forgotten that the A592 was closed from 9am - 5pm on Monday to Friday for roadworks. We carried on down to the Brotherswater Inn for some lunch however and captured these pictures along the way, A very dull day but the cloud was above the fell tops.

From Ings on the A591 we took the Moorhowe Road to Troutbeck. This pictures was taken near the Longmire Rd track and shows Wansfell Pike with the top of Red Screes to it's right.

From right to left, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick and Thornthwaite Crag. Taken from near Limefitt Park on the A592

Looking towards Sour Howes.

And to Wansfell.

From further along the A592 Sallows and Sour Howes

One of my favourite views. Tiny Troutbeck Tongue is dwarfed by the western ridge of the Kentmere Horseshoe

Looking over to Red Screes.

Wansfell Pike and Windermere.

Looking back to Sallows and Sour Howes

It's not often that you can stand in the middle of the road here to take pictures. The Brotherswater Inn with Middle Dodd (l) and High Hartsop Dodd (r)

And here's the reason why. The A592 was closed off for road repairs. I do wish that Edith would remember these things ;-)

We just left the car at the roadside and I got this picture of Brotherswater and Place Fell.

A short walk up the lane to Sykeside and the Inn

There were only an handful on the campsite as we looked over into Dovedale.

Time for a spot of lunch. The food was fine but I was disappointed at getting a cup of hot water, a tea bag and a samll carton of milk instead of a proper pot of tea.

After a bite to eat we made our way back up Kirkstone and then down "The Struggle" to Ambleside. A lay by gave us this view of Wansfell.

A look back up to St Ravens Edge

And down to Windermere.
