Visions of Cumbria

The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.

Tuesday 10th March 2009

My PC was well overdue for an Healthcheck. I phoned PC World who informed me that there were problems at the Lancaster store which is only 15 minutes away but Barrow would be able to do it the following day. Not having been there for a while we decided to have a drive there and a look round. When we arrived at 10am they told us to come back around 1pm. I had hoped to go to Walney Island for a short walk but my knee was far to painful so, having left the car at PC World we walked round to the Dock Musuem.

We got there only to find that it was closed on Tuesday!!

We have been before however so not to disappointed.

Looking across the Walney Channel to Walney Island

My plan now was to follow this path which runs alongside the channel to the slag heaps.

The tide was coming in, although it wasn't far off High Water as we walked slowly along to get this view of Black Combe.

Wonder what it had seen. It was hovering above the water.

The way ahead.

I was hoping to get to the top of the path on the slag heaps shown in mid picture but it was rather painful.

Made it!.....I am stood on top of the slag heaps now looking across the notyern tip of Walney and the Duddon Estuary to Black Combe

Snow capped Lakeland Fells

Looking across to the small airfield on North Walney as we returned.

Looking into the sun as we made our way back

The tide is on it's way out now as can be seen by the wet slipway.

A couple of fishing boats near the Dock Musuem.

Back at the Dock Musuem with the massive Devonshire Dock building to the right.

R.N.L.B Herbert Leigh.

It wasn't time yet for PC World so with an aching knee it was a case of "any port in a storm" ......So to McDonalds.

After the visit to McDonalds we went back to PC World to be told it would be best to come back the following morning for the PCas they couldn't guarantee the "Healthcheck" would be complete today. On the way back I made a quick diversion to Furness Abbey.

We had only just got in the house about 4:30pm when PC World phoned to say the PC was ready. I was not an happy bunny!!
