The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.
Today we had a run out to Cartmel calling in at Grange over Sands on the way. On the way back we called in at Levens village to see St John's Church whose steeple we had long admired when driving along the A590.
Arnside Knott from the promenade at Grange with Holme Island to the left.
Believe it or not this is actually the foreshore. It as been taken over by Spartina commonly known as Cord-grass. Humphrey Head is the little lump in the distance. It is one of Wainwrights "Outlying Fells" but holds no great appeal to me.
Quack!
The Duck Pond at Grange over Sands.
Follow the leader!......Apparently these are Bar-Headed Geese...Thanks to Sheila from Gosforth and Angie from the OFC
Cartmel Priory.......for more information click HERE
A close up of Hampsfell from the Priory
The Priory is a magnificent building built in the late 12th Century. It is well worth a visit if in the area but avoid the area at Bank Holidays when the race meeting is on.
This is the gatehouse of the original priory now owned by the National Trust.
The village square
A delightful corner display as we walked to the racecourse.
Cartmel Racecourse......A great day out but very busy traffic wise.
The village is well serviced with pubs.
But this is where we went. Pleasant service, a great cuppa and good value for money.
On our way back I pulled over to get this picture of Whitbarrow.
We have often admired the spire of St John's Church at Levens village. Today we took the opportunity to visit on our way home.
This set of bells are in the grounds adjacent to the church.
