After 3 days of murky, cloudy weather the sun made an appearance today around mid-morning. After finishing off the jobs we had to do we decided to shoot off to the Arnside area and go up Arnside Knott. As it was nearly 2pm before we set off it was only a short walk up and around the Knott but after 3 days of inactivity was most welcome.

Arnside Tower and farm from our parking spot

The path up the Knott

Although we are losing the leaves off the trees fast with the recent breezes we are gaining a thick new carpet through the woods

As we gained height this view of Whitbarrow came into view across the Kent estuary

Approaching the summit of Arnside Knott

From the summit looking down to Arnside Farm

From the summit we took the grassy track down to Red Hills

Looking to Storth with Underlaid Wood to the right

Whitbarrow across Milnthorpe Sands

Our way ahead towards Copridding Wood

How times change. This building used to be a convalescent home for the National Union of Mineworkers. Now it as been converted into private apartments that I for one will never be able to afford.

Still some beautiful Autumnal colours in the grounds though

I've been told to look for the smaller things whilst walking so here's some fungi ......still don't know what it is though!!
Update: I am told by Sheila from Gosforth that it is called Honey Fungus

Walking through Copridding Wood

Looking across the Kent to Hampsfell

On our way back to the car. These woods are alive with Grey Squirrels. I know they are not everybodys favourite but I'm not going to destroy them. It's not their fault that somebody brought their ancestors back from the USA.

Back to Arnside Tower farm

A 2 minute walk had us back to the car.
Next Walk: 4th November 2007 - A Malham circular
Last Walk: 29th October 2007 - Holme Park Fell & Hutton Roof Crags
