A riverside walk along the river and back. |
The fine weather is still with us but Monday is shopping day and we must eat. By the time Edith got back from shopping and put everything away it ws too late to venture far so we decided on a walk along the River Lune.
We left the car at the Crook O'Lune car park from where this picture is taken. We would walk up the left hand side of the river and through the woods in the distance then cross over the river to follow the opposite bank round to the Bull Beck picnic site from where we would return along the trackbed of the old railway line.
Ingleborough in closeup. There is still a hazy look in the distance.
Looking across the valley to the wind turbines on Caton Moor
The riverbank is still very "yucky" in places but most can be avoided.
Walking through Lower Cliff Wood. The green shoots are Wild Garlic and at times there was a faint scent of it in the air.
This would be as near as we would be to Lakeland today. This fine structure carries the water pipe from Thirlmere to Manchester. It is also where we cross the river onto the other bank.
Looking back from where we had come.
And our path ahead.
We are now following the riverside round towards Bull Beck.
There are a number of these riverside huts along the rivers length. They are owned by various fishing associations and used to keep gear in when the anglers are fishing the river. They are built on plinths in case of flooding.
This shows the power of the river when in flood it is about 15 feet from the rivers present level to the top of the banking.
From the bridge we were following a big meander in the river.
We have just left the river now and are walking to the Bull Beck picnic site.
and a brief stop for a mug of tea and a bacon bun.
Service with a smile.
Walking back to the Crook O'Lune and looking across to the woods
Ash House farm
And finally ......back to the Crook O'Lune
