A few pictures taken today on the central promenade.

The Stone Jetty on at 10am

The Midland Hotel, once a fine proud building which was left to decay. Now being renovated by Urban Splash and due to re-open next year

The bulk of the cockle picking is being carried out far out in the bay but recently a group with the green boat have been picking close inshore within 100 yards of the promenade. The small boat in the foreground is made of fibreglass and was taken from a mould of a former fishermans lifeboat the "William Priestley". Morecambe is now serviced by the RNLI with both a Hovercraft and an inshore lifeboat.

The boat is deliberately run aground on the ebb tide near to the cockles which are then harvested and lifted on board.

The Stone Jetty and our favourite watering hole ....the Cafe

Another view of the cocklers taken from the Stone Jetty.
