Having quite enjoyed visiting one of our old haunts yesterday today Edith and I decided to go to Overton where Edith was born and lived until we got married. Its's only a few miles down the road and Edith goes nearly every week to visit the churchyard where her parents are buried. Today however we had decided on just a short walk taking in the highest point which at 31 metres wasn't going to give us altitude sickness.
We left the car near the church from where this picture of Glasson Dock across the River Lune was taken
We took a quiet lane towards our objective. On the way I got this picture of Sunderland Point where I had been yesterday. Yes, that is Blackpool Tower on the left.
The lane to our destination. Over the years there as been quite a bit of new builds in Overton. What Edith remembers as green fields as a child are now built upon.
Here we are. The Hall Greaves which at 31 metres is the highest point in the area. Behind Edith is Sunderland Point and the Fylde coast
Sunderland Point & the Fylde coast
Looking over Heysham to the Coniston Fells
And eastwards to Clougha Pike
Across the river to Glasson Dock
From the Hall Greaves we descended (I use the word loosely) to the shoreline using this stile. When we were courting there was a gentle, sloping banking here. Coastal erosion as washed it all away.
We followed the shoreline back to Overton
One of the villages two pubs......The Globe Hotel.....I've had a few "lock-ins" here over the years
The Ship Hotel. We had our wedding reception here when it was still in the hands of the famous "Ma McCluskie" or Ma Mac as she was called
