Having been told by a friend that the Promenade by The Cliffs had re-opened on completion of the sea defence work I decided to have a walk along there this morning for a look.
This section of promenade as been shut for a few months for the work on the last phase of the coastal defences. Many thousands of tonnes of Limestone rocks have been placed against the existing sea wall and two groynes have been built. The promenade as now been resurfaced and new lighting installed.
Looking across the bay over the end of one of the new groynes
The promenade as been widened quite considerably at this point with the construction of the groyne
New seating and tables have been installed
And a climbing wall of sorts for the younger ones.
Walking from the first groyne towards the site of the old Grosvenor Hotel
The old hotel was demolished and replaced with this apartment block
The groyne opposite the new apartments as a walkway along it for the anglers to fish
There are a number of access points to the beach, this is the one near the new aprtments which is extra wide for launching boats
Walking back to my start point this show the first groyne. Before the contractors built this one they had to build an artificial skear (rocky outcrop) at the end because the groyne itself would cover a natural one which attracted birdlife.
I think this close up shows that the birdlife wasn't put off in any way.
