After yesterdays walk we returned to Morecambe for a short walk along the promenade and a visit to the Stone Jetty. It was quite a breezy day and very near to high water but the new sea defence work looks to be working very well. The extension to the Stone Jetty that was done a number of years ago certainly calms things calm on the Clock Tower side of the Jetty.
Taken from near the Clock Tower looking towards the Midland Hotel.
The Clock Tower with the Queens Hotel behind
"Our Eric".....Morecambes' favourite son. Some say he's facing the wrong way but the backdrop for pictures is so much better this way particularly on a fine, clear day.
The Winter Gardens now owned by the Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust. The shops at the front look to have all been let now.
The Midland Hotel now nearing the end of its restoration and due to open later this year.
The Dome. There was some talk of it closing but it will now be kept open until this area of the promenade is redeveloped.
The Stone Jetty
The seaward side of the Midland Hotel
Quite calm on this side of the Jetty, although the little dinghy appears to be carrying a heavy load of water, probably rain.
The Cafe.....In summer a very popular spot in summer when there can be 30 tables outside. In winter however it needs very good weather for most people to visit.
Especially if the waves are breaking over the Jetty.
The original Jetty ended where just past here. It was extended in 1994/95 as part of the Coastal Defence Scheme
Suitably refreshed we returned to the car.
Plenty of birds using the breakwater as a resting place.
And finally the Central Beach. The tide was on its way out by now.
