3rd May 2009

A fine sunny morning saw us make the short journey to Conder Green where we left the car to do the short walk to Glasson Dock. After a look around and a visit to the cafe we made our way back along the Glasson Branch of the Lancaster Canal.

It was a lovely morning although a bit breezy.

Looking across the River Lune to Overton and the Power Stations at Heysham. The boat in the foreground is all that remains of the "Maud Raby" an ex Morecambe "Nobby". She was built in the early 1930's by Crosfields of Arnside probably one of the last to be built there.

A look to the hills of the Forest of Bowland.

The path we are on was once the Glasson - Lancaster railway line

Looking back to Clougha Pike and Wards Stone.

Entering Glasson. The saltwater dock was built during the 1780's when it became difficult for ships to get further upriver to Lancaster Quays.

Very quiet today, although it is a Bank Holiday weekend.

Our way back took us past the freshwater Marina which hosts flet of rather expensive vessels many of which never leave the Marina.....bit like a caravan on water I suppose ;-)

No chance of any reflections today.

I just managed to get this not very good pictures of the ducklings as we walked along the Glasson Branch of the Lancaster Canal

This is where we left the canal to pick up our original path.

This gulley is actually the River Conder.

Now this is new!!....The house to the right had been sold recently and the last time we were here they were building what I thought was going to be a double garage. Unfortunately it wasn't due to open till the following day but we will be paying a visit.
