2nd December 2009

Edith had two appointments today, one at 9:30am and the other at 2pm so we were unable to go anywhere to far away. After her first appointment we drove to Hest Bank for a short walk of about 3miles along the Lancaster Canal.

The Lancaster Canal used to run between Preston and Kendal but the building of the M6 motorway resulted in the canal being culverted in a number of places and it is now only navigable to Tewitfield near Carnforth. Hest Bank is well known as the start point for the now famous Cross Bay Walk which usually takes place every other weekend from late spring to autumn. The Hest Bank Hotel peviously called the Sands Inn was once a coaching station for traffic crossing the sands of Morecambe Bay.

The walk was centred around Hest Bank. We first walked one way beforing returning and then t'other way. Below are the pictures from the walk .....descriptions are only given if deemed necessary.
