23rd January 2010
My first thoughts on opening the curtains this morning were that there would be a very good chance of a cloud inversion in the Lakes. Second thoughts brought me down to earth (a) I can't get above now and (b) I wanted to watch the football in the early afternoon. And so dear reader this is why I have only to offer you this very poor set of pictures taken on a walk around Sunderland Point. As we made the short drive there I thought that the heavy mist would eventually clear as the sun kept peeking through.....this sadly was not the case.
We parked at Sunderland where (l) I am looking back along the tidal road to Overton which apparently as disappeared. In the picture (r) we are walking towards First Terrace with the sun showing through the mist.
Nowt to say here!
First Terrace (l) and The Lane (r) which will take us to the west beach.
The daffodils are poking there way through as we walk down The Lane to the west beach.
Looking to Meadow Farm (not shown) and arrival at the west beach.
A short walk along the shoreline (l) took us to Sambo's Grave (r).....For better pictures and info regarding this grave take a look HERE....opens in new window.
Regular readers may remember that when I last visited the grave in October I mentioned that the stones from the schoolchildren of Nenthead and Alton were starting to fall over as the support string had broken. My request for anybody passing had fallen on deaf ears so I had remembered to take some. Lots more pictures of a better day HERE ....opens in new window.
From the grave we made our way to the point.
Looks like somebody made their own record of the new decade.
Walking around the point.
Looking the other way seemed a little brighter
The erosion of the land continues
Making our way back along the east shore towards the Old Hall
Old Hall
On our way back now along Second Terrace (l) and First Terrace (r)
Almost back to the car.
Edith wondered if they had come to see me....Ancient with some History.....Mystical must refer to the day!!
Once again sorry for the dull pictures but we don't always get sunny days.
