1st February 2010
I had an appointment today with my Rheumatologist so I thought I would take the camera and get a few pictures from the City of Lancaster along the way. The Rheumatologist was very happy at how my weekly injections were keeping the RA under control and doesn't want to see me for another 6 months. When I asked him if he had heard from my Chest specialist he said that they had forgotten to let me know of an appointment on the 19th January but the echocardiogram had not shown owt nasty.
Anybody familar with Lancaster will know of its traffic problems. This is Skerton Bridge which carries the A6 across the River Lune. At one time it used to be two-way but is now the way into Lancaster from Morecambe and the north.
This bridge further downriver used to be a railway bridge. Thanks to Dr.Beeching it became redundant and is now a road bridge to Morecambe and the north. The Castle & Priory can be seen on the higher ground.
A rather newer bridge....The Millenium Bridge is supposed to show two ships passing.....beats me!!...There is a fourth bridge further downriver which can just be seen on the far right. It is the Carlisle Bridge which carries the railways over the river.
Lancaster quayside stretches downriver for about 3/4 mile. The sailing ships used to come here before Glasson was built.
Roman Lancaster ....The ruins of a Roman bathhouse.
The Priory
Lancaster Castle....difficult to capture due to its size and lack of space
The main gateway into the Castle ....The John O' Gaunt gatehouse. This part of the castle is used as a prison. The schoolchilren on the right will be going on a tour of another part of the castle.
From further back and it looks like Group4 are bringing another customer.
Market Square and Lancaster Musuem.
Dalton Square and the Queen Vic
The Town Hall
A little walk along the canal. The stack is from the Infirmary boilerhouse so we are nearly there.
The Waterwitch with part of the hospital behind.
The canal is glazed over after an overnight frost. We would walk to the bridge ahead to cross over.
Up'n Over
Well that's it folks......Lancaster is a University city.....there's a few readers been there and some still are
