13th March 2010
We had no plans for going anywhere for a walk today having been out a number of times of late it was time to give the car a rest. I do this walk on average 3 or 4 times a week but rarely take the camera. However an ex-pat of Heysham had e-mailed me a while ago wanting to see the rea again so I took it with us today.
Please note this entry is way out of sequence - We currently have a backlog of 7 walks which be published asap.
Having set off from home we walked up Smithy Lane catching the view of the harbour and power stations from the top.
A short walk through the community wood.
Almost there as a couple of horseriders come our way.
We are now down at Half Moon Bay. Our route is straight ahead.
The views over the bay weren't as clear as they have been. Black Combe the southernmost of Wainwrights OFL's stands out though.
Heysham Harbour
A couple of more months and it will be busier.
We have now entered an area of land owned by the NT....The Coniston Fells across the bay are losing there snow now.
This land was last used as an Internation Go-Kart track many years ago then left to grow wild. The NT bought the land and cleared the tarmac to replace it with this lovely cliff top path leading to the Heysham Barrows which was already in NT hands.
A group of anglers at Throbshaw Point. It is a popular place with shore fisherman and also a regular call-out spot for the Inshore Lifeboat when they get cut off by the incoming tide.
Looking towards Morecambe
The tide as just about surrounded them now but not all tides actually cover the rocks where they are standing.
Black Combe over the flowering Gorse as we walk up to the top of the Barrows.
Approaching St Patrick's Chapel
The Chapel and Stone graves.
A walk through Chapel Wood nearby to see how the daffodils were doing reveales they are way behind on last year.
This rock always puzzles me. The hole on top as obviously been chiseled out....but why?
The crocuses in St Peters churchyard looked lovely but all one colour.
St Peter's Church
Main Street , Heysham Village
Youngsters playing football in the local youth league.
In the next field the more sedate cricket club will soon be back in action.
Nearly home as we pass the Old Hall Inn
