30th December 2011
The past few weeks have been not that great for Edith and I. First to falter was yours truly who started with a simple cold towards the end of November which because of my inefficient immune system took ages to shake off only to be followed by an outer ear infection that although now painless still is not quite right. The recent spell of bad weather also placed me in a Catch 22 situation. If I went out in it my dodgy lungs seemed to "freeze" and I had difficulty breathing, yet if I stayed in the inactivity did them no good as they need some exercise to retain some elasticity. Edith decided to join in the fun and games in the week before Christmas by starting with Bronchitis. A visit to our GP for antibiotics seemed to have cleared it and we were able to enjoy Christmas with the family but a couple of days ago she started with a tight chest again. Another visit to the GP where she was given an inhaler but as I write this at 5-30pm she feels no better and as gone to bed so I think another visit is due tomorrow.
In the meantime the cold weather as left us for the time being, so yesterday I had my first short walk outside for some time. It was only around the beach and Barrows and it was too misty for pictures. Today I had to go into Morecambe so I made a short walk of it and took a few pictures along the way. They aren't very good, normally I wouldn't have published them but I wanted a final entry before the end of the year.
I parked up near the old fairground to walk into town. It was hard to distinguish between water, land and sky across the bay, everything was just shades of grey.
However the visibility was quite good looking over to the Coniston & Langdale fells.
Walking towards the Midland Hotel on my way to the Stone Jetty.
One miserable looking chuck!!!......suits the day really.
A look towards Heysham from the Stone Jetty.
And the other way towards Ingleborough.
The wider picture, but no more inspiring.
From the end of the jetty it was impossible for the camera to Auto-Focus. The M setting means Mystery not Manual to me so I retreated back along the jetty until the breakwater came into view and enabled the camera to focus.
Very peaceful, not a breath of wind but oh so grey!
I was puzzled by what was happening here but not enough to walk down and muck my trainers up......
.....It's hard to make out but behind the tractor is a mini-digger which is trying to dig a boat that as sunk at some point out of the soft mud.
The "new" Lifeboat Station which is home to the Hovercraft.
The "Linda" ....A bonny la'al boat in fibreglass. She was cast from a mould taken from the old Morecambe Fishermans Lifeboat "Sir William Priestley"
The "new" Central beach. The sand which was dredged from Morecambe Bay is staying in place between the rock armour groynes.
Our Eric seems to have a certain "glow" this morning......best check those Power Stations!!!....... ;-)
The snow as all gone and at last I find a little colour.
On my way back I met a couple who we always stop to have a chat with and Edith of course makes a fuss of these two.
Back at the car and it's still a grey day....but at least I've got out.
