Visions of Cumbria

The purpose of this section is to show various pictures from Cumbria which do not normally appear on our walks pages. They may have been taken on a day out or maybe on the way to or back from one of our walks or sent in by one of our readers. Either way I hope that you will enjoy them.

16th February 2009

After having to turn back at Brotherswater due to roadworks (See Visions0038) we decided to have a trip to Hawkshead. I have mixed feelings about this village. I love its location and its delightful narrow streets but hate having to share it with hundreds of shoppers. Maybe it's the Grumpy Old Man coming out.

Having left the car in the car park that seems larger than the village itself we set off for a short walk around the village.

Hawkshead Grammar School. Unfortunately not yet open but well worth a visit.  More info HERE

One of the schools famous scholars.....see if you can find the desk with his name carved in it.

St Michael & All Angels church overlooks the village.

Looking towards Latterbarrow from the church.

And in close up.

The Fairfield Fells from the church.

Red Screes in the centre with Little Hart Crag (l) and Caudale Moor (r)

It is a delight to walk around the village with its narrow streets and alleyways.

Ann Tyson's Cottage

On the way home we stopped off at Esthwaite Water

Looking over to Near Sawrey home to Beatrix Potter.
