Walk No.1
Wainwright summits: Wansfell
Distance: 9.25 miles
Ascent: 2272 feet
Time: 4h 30m
Weather: Wet at first with a low cloud base, brightening in the second half of the walk
This walk was done from Ambleside. We left the car near Miller Bridge.
There had been heavy rain overnight and there was plenty of water coming down Stock Ghyll
Stockghyll Force. I'm a little hard of hearing but the noise was still loud.
A rather damp Edith on the summit of Wansfell Pike. From here it was a short but rather wet walk to the true summit.
Dave on the true summit. Edith seems to have lost my feet in this picture. From here we made our way to a walled lane called Nanny lane which leads down to Troutbeck.
As we walked down Nanny Lane to Troutbeck the weather started to improve.
From Troutbeck we took a track called Robin Lane which leads back to Ambleside. The picture shows one of the steamers on Windermere.
Along the way we passed the viewpoint known as Jenkin Crag.
Looking across Windermere towards the Coniston fells from Jenkin Crag.
Further along the path the western leg of the Fairfield Horseshoe came into view.
As we approached Ambleside looking to the "dip" of the Wrynose Pass.
