Walk No.14
Wainwright summits: Shipman Knotts, Kentmere Pike and Harter Fell
Distance: 11.75 miles
Ascent: 2886 feet
Time: 5h 50m
Weather: A fine and sunny day.
We left the car near Kentmere church and took the Kentmere to Longsleddale bridleway to access the fells.
Looking down to the church as we gained some height.
From the same place looking up Kentmere. We followed the bridleway to its summit before turning off and up to Shipman Knotts.
Edith on Shipman Knotts.
Dave on Shipman Knotts.
The path ahead to Kentmere Pike.
Looking across to Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick and Thornthwaite Crag.
Edith on Kentmere Pike.
Dave on Kentmere Pike.
The way ahead to Harter Fell.
Together on Harter Fell with the High Street fells behind. We had a couple of choices from here either to drop down to Nan Bield as in Walk No.11 or the longer route down to the Gatescarth Pass and down Longsleddale to Sadgill from where we could take the bridleway back to Kentmere. It was such a lovely day we opted for the second choice.
Blea Water and the High Street from Harter Fell.
Haweswater Reservoir from Harter Fell.
Descending to the Gatescarth Pass this shows Haweswater between the flanks of Harter Fell and Branstree.
Looking down Longsleddale from the Gatescarth pass.
The track to Sadgill seems to go on forever.
But eventually we arrived there.
Just a couple of walkers cars parked here today. Sometimes there crammed in nose to tail. Our path went over the bridge and joined the Bridleway we had set off on earlier in the day.
A couple of barns just before dropping into Kentmere.
Looking back from the walk back to Kentmere the colours were gorgeous.
And finally back to the Church and car.
