Walk No.26
Beda Fell, Angletarn Pikes and Brock Crags
Date: 16th April 2007 Distance: 11.00 miles Ascent: 2391 feet Time: 6h 30m
Weather: A fine day with cloud at 1800' initially but rising above the tops later
Route: We left the car at Cow Bridge and after walking back to Hartsop took the path to Boredale Hause
We left the car at Cow Bridge near Brotherswater and for a change we weren't the first there.
The slanting path up to Boredale Hause. The cloud was down on the tops at the start but soon cleared
After walking back to Hartsop we took the bridleway to Patterdale before turning off up to Boredale Hause
Looking back towards Brotherswater from the path to Boredale Hause
Getting higher and nearer to the Hause
From just past the Hause on the path round to Beda Fell this shows the path going up Place Fell
Walking round the top of Boredale now with the Beda Fell ridge to the right and Hallin Fell in the distance
On the Beda Fell ridge looking down to the summit
Edith on Beda Fell with Hallin Fell and Ullswater behind
Dave on Beda Fell
Hallin Fell and Ullswater from Beda Fell
Gowbarrow Fell and the Mell Fells from Beda Fell. From Beda Fell we retraced our steps a while before cutting round Heckbeck Head to the Angletarn Pikes
Walking back along the Beda Fell ridge looking at The Nab
The head of Bannerdale
Edith on the North summit of Angletarn Pikes. This is the highest point although the South summit offers the best views
Dave on the north summit
looking to Brotherswater with Middle Dodd, High Hartsop Dodd and Dove Crag on the skyline
Looking back across Boredale Hause to Place Fell now out of the clouds
Looking to the south summit from the north. It's only a few minutes easy walking away
On the south summit now looking to the north
Angle Tarn......absolutely delicous
Edith on the south summit. We had our "butty stop" here before following the C2C path past the tarn for a while before diverting to Brock Crags
On the path to Brock Crags....The south summit of Angletarn PIkes is on the far side of the tarn
Edith on Brock Crags
Dave on Brock Crags
Hayeswater with Gray Crag to the right and the Hight Street ridge to the left
Looking into Threshthwaite Cove with Gray Crag to the left, Thornthwaite Crag behind and CaudaleMoor on the right. From Brock Crags we went back to the C2C path and followed it down to Boredale Hause apart from a short section where we diverted over the top of Dubhow Beck
The short diversion over Dubhow Beck with Place Fell behind. I love these narrow paths that contour around the fellside
Back on the main path now and approaching Boredale Hause
Boredale Hause....It could be confusing, to the far left a path to Place Fell, then one to Boredale, then the one we took earlier round to Beda Fell and then to the right the one to Angletarn. If that's not confusing enough there's quite a few subsidiary minor paths
Back on the path we came up earlier in the day now on our way back to Hartsop
Approaching Hartsop with Hartsop Dodd ahead
Looking towards Hartsop with Gray Crag behind
And finally back to the car
Next Walk: 19th April 2007 -- Steel Knotts and Hallin Fell from Martindale
Last Walk: 14th April 2007 -- Walla Crag and Latrigg from Great Wood car park
