Route:  Elerwater - Lingmoor Fell - Blea Tarn - Slater Bridge - Elterwater

I was by myself today as Edith was visiting her brother. After an early start I was parked up and walking from Elterwater at 8am. My route took me along the road past the YHA to Elterwater Hall where I took the track up through Sawrey's Wood and then one of the old quarry tracks up the the disused Banks Quarry towards Lingmoor Quarry. Before I reached Lingmoor Quarry I took a track off left, marked with a small cairn and a finger post up to the ridge. I followed a good path along the ridge to the summit of Lingmoor. Lingmoor Fell may only be one of the smaller fells in the Langdale valleys but it can certainly hold it's own with it's higher partners as far as views are concerned. From the summit I took a good path which more or less followed the ridge wall towards Side Pike from where I descended to the top of the road between Great & Little Langdale. From here I took a path to Blea Tarn another of Lakelands treasures were I stopped for my "butties". I then made my way around the edge of Blea Moss to exit onto the road going up the Wrynose Pass. I stopped for a short while here to chat to a gentleman who was adjusting the oil pump on his motorcycle. Now I have to admit that I'm no big fan of the motorbike but this one was a Raleigh Mark21 500cc (I think that's right) built in 1929 making it 78 years old and still going up Wrynose & Hardknott!!  Anyway I then made my way to Slater Bridge via Fell Foot farm , Bridge End and Low Hall Garth before returning to Elterwater over Dale End.

Elterwater Bridge

As I walked up the old quarry track I caught a glimpse of the summit

These old quarry tracks are a delight to walk on

As I came out of the woods near the old Banks Quarry the views started to open up

Looking down to Chapel Stile with the deep cut of Megs Gill to the right of the church

The fellside is littered with old workings

This is where I left the quarry track to make my way up to the ridge.

A perfect place for a short break. Anybody want to claim the yellow tennis ball?

Following the ridge path with views in all directions. The Langdale Pikes across Great Langdale

Cold Pike, Pike O' Blisco, Crinkle Crags and Bowfell ahead

Wetherlam, Swirl How and Great Carrs across Little Langdale

The Helvellyn and Fairfield Fells over my shoulder.....I was truly spoilt for choice today

I eventually arrived at the summit cairn with Wetherlam, Swirl How &  Great Carrs behind

Pike O' Blisco, The Crinkles and Bowfell from the summit

The Langdales from the summit with Lingmoor Tarn in right mid picture

The Helvellyn & Fairfield Fells from the summit

Lingmoor Tarn

From the summit I followed the path towards Side Pike....centre right

The Langdale Pikes.

As I descended to the road I took this picture of Blea Tarn

This is taken from the top of the road looking up Mickleden. What it doesn't show are the two mini buses which discharged their passengers there to savour the views.

Again from the top of the road looking to the Pikes

From the top of the road I took a path, shown just to the right of the trees, to Blea Tarn where I ahd my "butties". Surprisingly at this point I had the palce to myself

From the tarn I took a path which skirts Blea Moss to the Wrynose road. On the way I passed these falls.

The path around Blea Moss to the Wrynose road

Looking back across Blea Miss from the Wrynose road with the Langdale Pikes in the distance

Fell foot farm with the newly cut grass in the fields

Looking back on the path to Bridge End

Looking towards the Wrynose Pass from near Bridge End

Bridge End

On the path from Bridge End to Slater Bridge looking towards Red Screes

Low Hall Garth (Climbing Hut)

Slater Bridge.....The crowds were out in force today but I managed to capture it in a quiet moment

High Birk Howe farm

Looking across Little Langdale Tarn to Greenburn and Wrynose

I returned from Slater Bridge by way of a rough track past Dale Head farm. This is looking back to Wetherlam , Swirl How & Great Carrs

And finally on the descent back to Elterwater a view of Loughrigg Fell.
