Route: | A short walk along the shoreline at Heysham and through the village. |
A number of people on AOL and in the OFC have mailed me asking how Edith is as she has not been walking with me lately. I had previously mentioned that she was looking after George, a loveable but daft boxer dog belonging to my son & daughter-in-law while they were on holiday in Lithuania visiting her parents. Has I was unable to go walking today due to having an appointment at the Rheumatology Department at the RLI I decided to join them on one of their walks around the local area.
This is George, a 5 year old boxer dog, not in the best of health and as daft as a brush.
Taken from near Heysham Harbour looking towards Heysham Head across Half Moon Bay
Looking across Morecambe Bay to Black Combe
and to the Coniston Fells
George in one of his more composed moments.
Entering Heysham Head. This site used to be a large entertainment centre but faded out in the 70's. Private housing now occupies the higher part of the site. The section we are about to walk along used to be an International Go Kart track but is now owned by the trust.
Apart from the footpath across the site it as been allowed to return to nature.
Although fine & sunny there was a coolish onshore breeze but it didn't deter this group of young ones from enjoying the water.
I can't remember when but this cove was once an official nudist beach .......didn't last long though
We are now on what is known as The Barrows. The wall is the old boundary of Heysham Head.
The Barrows
Throbshaw Point......The lifeboat is called out to here a few times a year usually to rescue anglers who have been trapped by the incoming tide.
Looking up to the remains of St. Patrick's Chapel
Approaching the Chapel.
A set of stone graves on the headland near the Chapel.

Looking back across the playing fields to Heysham village
On our way back home and looking down to Half Moon Bay with Heysham Harbour and the 2 Nuclear Power Stations behind.
and a final pose but George wasn't watching the birdie!!
