Edith was given the choice of locations today and plumped for Pen-y-ghent. I had been up there about 3 weeks ago from Horton so today I decided to do it from Helwith Bridge. The route from Helwith Bridge initially takes you up a walled lane named aptly Long Lane. This track meets up eventually with the Pennine Way at Churn Milk Hole before ascending the southern end of Pen-y-ghent. From the summit we took the Pennine Way down before diverting first to Hull Pot and then over Whitber Hill to Sell Gill Holes. From there we took the Ribble Way down to Horton. After visiting the cafe we carried on the Ribble Way back to Helwith Bridge for a welcome pint.
Part 2

A rather dry Sell Gill Beck

A natural water sculpture

Ingleborough from Sell Gill. The path serves both the Pennine Way and the Ribble Way at this point

Descending to Horton with Horton Quarry across the valley

Pen-y-ghent from the Pennine/Ribble Way

The final stretch into Horton

Very, very tempting but we still had walking to do

so we settled for the Pen-y-ghent cafe

The old 3 Peaks "clocking in/out" clock in the cafe

After a pint pot of tea it was back to the Ribble Way which would return us to Helwith Bridge

Anyone for free range eggs?

Walking through the field alongside the river

Hope your not fed up with Pen-y-ghent, but I love it.

Edith takes over as walk leader.....not too difficult on this path

The Settle - Carlisle railway

Not far to go now

A peacefull River Ribble

Back to Helwith Bridge. We arrived at 2:30pm just as the bar opened. Couldn't have planned it better really
