Route:   Stavely - Reston Scar - Stavely

This walk was actually an afterthought. I had got back to the car after finishing the walk to High Knott and it was still only 12:30 or thereabouts and the day seemed to be improving a little. After a visit to the local shop for a packet of sandwiches. I set off for Reston Scar which overlooks the village. From the car park I made my way up School Lane turning left at the top and taking the metalled lane upwards. Once above the last house the path gently wends its way up the fellside towards Kemp Tarn before reaching the summit. This is an easy walk for those wanting to fill an hour or so. Unlike in Wainwrights days the area is now open access land and it is possible to go to Hugill Fell from the summit.

Walking up the metalled lane at the start of the short climb.

Looking down and across the school playing field to Craggy Plantation

Continuing upwards towards the reservoir

From the reservoir looking over Spy Crag towards Potter Fell and Brunt Knott

Stavely from the reservoir

From the reservoir the track ascends gently to reach the scar ridge. On the way to the summit you pass by Kemp Tarn with Brunt Knott behind

Nearing the summit.....The highest part of Hugill Fell is to the left.  Wainwrights cairn in the Outlying Fells book is to the right offering better views

AW's cairn can just be seen in centre picture

Reston Scar summit cairn with the Coniston Fells and Langdales in the distance

One of the reasons for coming up here was to see if there is now access from Reston Scar to Hugill Fell. I now know there is. There is a good path shown here going through the gate just below the summit to the highest point.

A close up of the Coniston Fells unfortunately rather hazy

Looking across the A591 to a reservoir above Fairbank Farm. It looks as if there are two but it is the little knobble in front that is obscuring the centre section

Looking over the valley to Brunt Knott

and right to Potter Fell

Sour Howes and Sallows with Red Screes in the distance between.

Looking over Hugill Fell to the head of Kentmere.

A close up of High Knott where I was earlier today

Stavely from the summit

On the way down I met these ladies carrying the marks of recent "encounters"

and this chappie with a smile or smirk on his face

Nearly down

and finally, back to the car.
