The weatherman said that today would be a bit better than the previous couple of days with the chance of a bit of sun, so just after 9am I was in the car and up the A6 to Kendal. From Kendal I took the Underbarrow Road and left the car at the top of it near the big mast. I made my way along the crest of the scar to the "mushroom" shelter and then on to the triangulation point. From there I made my way down and through Helsington Laithes and then along the lane to the church of St.John , Helsington. I returned back through Helsington Laithes and then followed the escarpment edge back to the shelter and then to the car.
From the car park looking down on Kendal partly hidden in some cloud.
From the "mushroom" shelter looking over to the Langdales
And N'wards to the Kentmere Fells
To the Whinfell Ridge
And across a very soggy looking Lyth Valley to Whitbarrow
The "mushroom" shelter on Scout Scar.
From the shelter I followed the path to the Trig point just under half a mile to the south.
Looking over to the snow topped Coniston Fells from the Trig Point
A close up of the Langdale Pikes
The Lyth Valley with Arnside Knott to the left and Whitbarrow to the right
Descending to Helsington Laithes
St. Johns' church Helsington. This was my torn round point
Walking back up through Helsington Laithes
My route back would follow the escarpment edge
A close up of the Conistons
Looking back along the escarpment
Barrowfield farm in the valley below
Back at the shelter and looking to the Kentmere Fells
A touch of sunlight on the Langdale Pikes
And in close up
And finally looking across to Cunswick Scar. I was tempted to continue over there but I had other things to do in the afternoon.
