Route:

Canal walk- not applicable

I was undecided where to put these pictures. Should it be here or in the Local Pictures. I plumped for here though just to show I did do a little walk. I would have liked to have done more but my foot seems to have taken a turn for the worse this past week and is once again quite painful. I also didn't want to push it too far as tomorrows weather forecast is quite good so hopefully we can get somewhere in the Lakes for a short walk. Being a Tuesday I was by myself today.

I left the car on the promenade at the bottom of the railway bridge at Hest Bank. It seems ages since we have had good views across the bay to Lakeland. Today wasn't going to alter that. Here is Warton Crag with Red Bank below.

Now on the canal at Hest Bank. The bridge is the one near the Hest Bank Hotel.

Hest Bank Hotel.

My short walk along the canal would take me S'wards

A decorative seat at the canal side.

Probably belonging to the owners of one of these boats which seem to be permanently moored here.

Rakes Head Bridge. The path to the left goes down into Morecambe at Happy Mount Park.

Looking back to Hest Bank

Across the fields to Belmount farm.

The canal does a Z bend near Reanes Wood to follow the contour of the land.

No name for this bridge only a number 115.

Approaching the point where I turned around.

The same bridge, again with no name from the other side. From here I made my way back.

Approaching what is shown on the map as Belmount Bridge but known locally as Hasty Brow bridge. It is part of a short cut from Morecambe to Hest Bank and Slyne and being only single carriageway with no views of oncoming traffic as been the scene of many accidents with at least one to my knowledge ending with an entry into the canal.

As I got nearer it was evident that something had happened quite recently.

Belmount farm from Hasty Brow bridge

Looking across the canal to Hasty Brow.

Approaching Hest Bank.

And finally.....a return to Hest Bank
