Distance: 6.75 miles Weather: Fine & Sunny

Route: Brown Howe - Beacon Fell - Wool Knott - Yew Bank - Brown Howe.

As we drove along the promenade at Morecambe on our way to the Lakes we could see that we would be in for a lovely day. For the first time in a few days the views across the bay were a lot clearer. We left the car on the roadside near Brown Howe on the shores of Coniston. There is a pay and display car park there if you want to pay £6.00 for the pleasure. From the car we made our way first to the summit of Beacon Fell to find the "treasure chest" left there by Connie McMahon and her parents. After signing the book and making a repair to the "treasure chest" itself we made our way to the summit of Wool Knott for our "butty stop". We then made our way down to pick up the Cumbria Way at the side of Beacon Tarn before diverting to Yew Bank our final summit of the day. From Yew Bank we made our way back to the car.

Wool Knott summit

What a delightfull place to have a "butty stop"

Black Combe from Wool Knott

Caw

Coniston Fells

Why do I fellwalk?........do I need to answer!

From Wool Knott we dropped down to pick up the Cumbria Way which runs alongside the tarn

Our next summit was Yew Bank. I'd never been to it from Beacon tarn before, always from Torver so we just made it up as we went along until we eventually picked a path up. Here we are looking back to Beacon Fell from the start of our trip to Yew Bank

AW's "modern cairn" on Yew Bank with Caw behind.

Looking back to Beacon Fell from Yew Bank. The path had been mainly through ankle grabbing, bot unfastening heather so we decided once again to make our own way back.

Black Combe from Yew Bank. Normally the warm sun will "burn off" any mist but today it seemed to be getting more hazy as the day wore on.

AW's "ancient cairn" on Yew Bank looks different to his drawing. The pile on the left is new and it looks like it's been converted to a wind break.

After a bit of "off path" walking we picked up a path heading towards Stable Harvey

Walking back down the lane to the car.

And finally.....Back to the car.
