This was a "spur of the moment walk". Edith was out for the day visiting her brother and by mid-morning I thought it would be better having a short walk than doing jobs at home. So it was a quick dash up to Newby Bridge to do this Outlying Fell which I have not been up for about 15 years.
I left the car at Newby Bridge just by the weir.
The Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge
Water Side Knott from Newby Bridge
From the bridge I walked back along the road a short distance to take a lane up Canny Hill
After about 400 yards I took this bridleway which goes to Brow Edge at Backbarrow
Gummer's How from the bridleway
The way ahead
A llok back as I gain height
Looking down to the reservoir
and ahead towards the summit
A look across to Haverthwaite Heights
The Coniston Fells in the distance.
The wartime relic on the summit of Bigland Barrow
The small unnamed tarn where AW's route does an anbout turn to descend to Hazelrigg farm.
I however decided to descend to yhis again unnamed stretch of water where I could see a number of people fishing. I suppose because of it's location it could be called Back Reddings Tarn but that's only a personal thought.
A delightful little spot although a little wet underfoot in places
After a look around I picked up a path towards Seatle farm
Approaching Seatle
Seatle farm
From Seatle my return to Newby Bridge would be on the single track Palace Lane and Hazelrigg Lane. I never saw a vehicle all the way down.
Gummer's How
A old Ferguson tractor on the way down
Back at Newby Bridge
And finally to the car
