After yesterdays walks in Buttermere we felt that we wanted somewhere a little quieter today so decided to stay "local" and do Wythop Mills' own version of "Twin Peaks"
The car was left behind today as we walked straight from the cottage
Our first summit was to be Ling Fell so we crossed over the bridge and walked up the lane
After a short spell we took the lane up the valley past the school
An accident or nature?
A look over to Sale Fell as we reach the sign to the Copse Road
We are now on what is known as the Copse Road which we followed to it's highest point
A look down into the Vale of Embleton and towards Cockermouth with the Scottish hills visible across the Solway Firth
We have left the Copse road at its highest point and are now climbing towards the summit. On the way we passed a number of old shooting butts now thankfully redundant.
Almost at the summit now
Ling Fell summitt
Looking over Widow Hause towards the NW Fells
And to the Ullock Pike ridge and Skiddaw
Finally to Sale Fell
From Ling Fell we descended to Burthwaite shown here
We then followed the lane past Eskin
Bugle
Looking across the valley to Sale Fell from near Old Scales
Old Scales. It was just past here that we crossed the valley to Church Wood
The path to Church Wood
Walking through Church Wood
Shortly after leaving Church Wood we took this path up the fellside between Lothwaite & Rivings
The head of Wythop valley with Lord's Seat and Broom Fell overlooking it
Approaching the summitt of Lothwaite with Bass Lake below
Looking over Bass Lake to Skiddaw , Ullock Pike and Dodd
Looking back to Lothwaite as we walk to Rivings
Rivings summitt with Sale Fell behind
And with Ling Fell behind
A short stroll soon had us on Sale Fell
Over the years we have probably been on Sale Fell between 15 and 20 times but had never walked this section of the path back to the new church
The new church
Approaching Wythop Mill
And finally ....back to Sty Cottage
