The day had been very grey with a number of showers. However around 4:30pm it started to brighten up, so with a poor forecast for the next day I decided to do this quite local walk. Edith didn't want to come having decided to catch up with her garden instead. My decision was the correct one because as I'm building this webpage on the following it is raining quite hard outside.
Crag Foot and Windy Scout Brow from the car.
The chimney is all that remains of a pumphouse that used to keep the Leighton Moss area free of water when used for agriculture.
The lane running over Warton Crag. It doesn't cross the summit.
A look over the wall towards the summit
Leaving the lane to enter the nature reserve
Warton Crag.....summit Beacon & Trig point
Taken into the sun and looking to Arnside Knott and Hampsfell with the Coniston Fells just a faint outline
Looking down Morecambe Bay to home....Can't see Edith in the garden!
Looking over Carnforth and the M6 to Caton Moor (with the wind turbine) and Clougha Pike and Wards Stone
I followed the edge of the crags down to see the silhouette of Ingleborough over the Pine Lake resort
Further left to Whernside. I had been hoping for clearer views but it wasn't to be today.
My path down.....watch out for slippy roots and polished limestone.
Once I reached the lane I entered Three Brothers on a permissive path
After the short walk across Three Brothers I exited onto what is known as the Coach Road. I had intended to return to Crag Foot from this point but the evening was so pleasant I decided to carry on to Leighton Hall.
Into the sun.....walking down Summer House hill at Leighton Hall with Leighton Moss in mid picture and the Kent esturay behind.
Looking back up Summer House hill
Leighton Hall
Looking back to Home Farm as I walk down the lane to Grisedale Farm
Passing Grisedale Farm on my way to Leighton Moss
Grisedale Wood
The causeway across Leighton Moss
Having crossed Leighton Moss I had a short walk to the Visitor Centre
The RSPB visitor centre at Leighton Moss
From the visitor centre I had a short walk back to the car along the quiet road.
And finally ....back to the car
