It was a very misty morning as we set off from home. Travelling towards Lancaster we could see that the area was covered in a bank of mist down to below 200feet. However the wetherman was promising a warm & sunny day so we made our way to Ingleton and then to Ribblehead. As we were approaching Ingleton we could see the mist burning off on Ingleborough and by the time we were booted up it was a glorious morning.
As we travelled from Ingleton towards Ribblehead the misty cloud was burning off quickly revealing the tops of Park Fell, Simon Fell and Ingleborough
Whernside and the Ribblehead viaduct
Ahead lay Cam Fell with our path to Cam End just visible right of centre
Whernside from where we left the car
As we walked up the road to Gearstones the mist from the lower valley was being burnt off and rising
A distant Pen y ghent
Gearstone Lodge outdoor centre
Far Gearstones farm
Leaving the road we took the Dales Way towards Cam End. This is shown on the OS map as being the site of a Roman Road.
No need of the bridge as we cross Gayle Beck. Gayle Beck is actually the infant River Ribble which starts its life on the higher slopes of Cam Fell as Iam Sike.
An unusual view of Ingleborough
Looking back to Whernside
To the north, Wold Fell top and Great Knoutberry Hill
We are now at Cam End. From here we will turn southwards and follow another well known path, The Pennine Way
Approaching Ling Gill Bridge
The bridge was built in 1765 but as been renovated a number of times since
It was very very warm by now .......Edith tries to cool off
Still on the Pennine Way heading to Old Ing
Old Ing.....this is where we left the Pennine Way to take the Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks route back to Ribblehead
Heading back to Ribblehead on the 3 Peaks path
God's Bridge.....unfortunately the bridge itself is in the shadow at the base of the tree
Passing by Nether Lodge
Time for a butty stop near the River Ribble
Approaching Ingman Lodge
Ingman Lodge.....Just past here we joined the Ribblehead - Horton road for the return to Ribblehead
Looking over Gauber to Whernside
Back at Ribblehead and straight for an ice cream!!
And finally......to find the car!!!
