I only had a short timeslot available to myself today. Edith needed the car to go to the Dentist first thing and then wanted taking to her brothers. At the other end I had an appointment in Milnthorpe at 1:30pm. Edith got back from the Dentist at 10am and after throwing my gear in the boot I dropped her off at her brothers before making my way to the start point of the walk. After the walk I just had time to nip into Arnside for something to eat before making my way to Milnthorpe with all of 5 minutes to spare.

Route

Arnside Tower and farm from where I left the car.

I took the path around the south end of the Knott towards Arnside.

I don't often use this path but it is a pleasure to walk with an easy gradient.

At the gate ahead (l) I left this path to take the track on the right up the Knott.

The path rises a bit to come out.....

....above the woods with views across the Kent estuary to Grange over Sands.

At the two bench seats (l) there is a choice. The main path turns right or better still carry on along a narrow track (r) that contours round the Knott to pass through a gate.....

....for a final short climb to the viewpoint.

Sadly the distant views were not to be today although the near views, here across New Barns to Grange and Hampsfell were fine.

A thick bank of low-lying cloud obscured the views towards Lakeland.

The bank of cloud carried on around to the north. This however is part and parcel of walking. At least it's fine and warm and still a pleasure to be here.

From the viewpoint I made my way to the summit with a brief view down Morecambe Bay towards home.

Approaching the summit with the "Lovers Tree" to the left.

The seat near the summit was empty but I decided to have a wander to eastern side to see if things were any clearer there.

Arnside Knott Trig point.

Looking down the bay. The sign and fence is to deter people from using this section of path. It runs above a scree section and the loosened scree is damaging the vegetation lower down.

The views from this side aren't much better. Farleton Fell in centre pictures with Middleton Fell and Crag Hill behind.

I returned to the summit and then to Red Hills to find no improvement in the views.

Perhaps they were just a touch clearer but unfortunately I don't have time to hang around today.

I made my way down Red Hills to return through the woods

A short walk through the woods returned me to the car from where it was only a few minutes drive down to Arnside.....

....where it was a glorious day and.....

....after a visit to the "Big Chippy" I had a fine viewpoint to.....

.....enjoy a bite to eat. I do think AW would approve, well, apart from the Coca Cola.
