After the short walk along the canal I wanted to see how my breathing was with a little uphill walking and thought this short walk would fit the bill. We had actually come here the previous day but on arrival found that we had left the camera at home so decided instead to visit our son & daughter-in-law to sample her baking. Today wasn't quite as nice weather-wise but as we progressed along the ridge the day did brighten from the east and by the time we reached the cairn on Cunswick Fell it was quite nice. I was a bit disappointed to find that the walk had taken us 30 minutes longer than when we did it last in September. Some of the time could be given to the fact that I carried the carried the camera in its bag rather than around my neck making each picture take a few seconds longer but I guess that after a full month of doing no walking due to health problems  my already restricted lungs need a bit more exercise.

After negotiating a very slippy car parking area and the short walk through the woods we were soon out on the open ridge. Unfortunately at this point we were walking in the shade although it looked brighter towards the Whinfell Ridge. Hopefully it will brighten as we progress.

The sunlit Howgill Fells peek out above Benson Knott as we make our way over to the wall corner.

At the wall corner we turn northwards along the ridge and the views to the Whinfell Ridge are much clearer now.

It is certainly brighter to the east and it is moving this way.

Looking ahead and the big cloud above us that is slowly moving to the west.

The Whinfell Ridge basking in sunshine, hopefully we will be soon.

Looking ahead to the summit and the fells of Kentmere from the cross summit fence.

We are starting to catch a little sun now. The Coniston Fells are hiding in the clouds to our west.

Looking towards the Langdale Pikes.

A short but for me tiring climb to the summit ahead.

Made it!!!......breathless but happy especially now that cloud as cleared my beloved Kentmere fells.

The Conistons, still cloud topped.

Cold looking Langdale fells.

As an old friend, now sadly departed used to say... "If the good Lord made anything better, he must have kept it to himself"

I love this spot. It offers some fantastic views for so little effort to the normal walker. It also make a great picnic spot on a summer's day.

Edith enjoys the sun with the Kentmere valley behind her.

I thought she was joking when she insisted my ears, nose and mouth had to be covered due to the long-lasting ear infection and the COPD. I look like some sort of bank robber.

The wider view to the west.

It was far more pleasant walking back along the ridge with the sun in our faces.

A look back as we approach the cross fence.

Probably my favourite of the day. A long look back along the ridge to Kentmere.

Another look back as we leave the ridge.....

.....to walk back through the small wood to the car park which was still quite icy.
