Even as we drove along the promenade at Morecambe in the morning we were still undecided as to where our destination would be. We could see across the bay but it looked very hazy. However at J36 on the M6 it was a left turn and a visit to Elterwater. It was probably a glorious day in the Dales as well but we love Great Langdale and to test the knee/ankle the distance was increased a bit tody.

Route Map

We left the car at the roadside as we entered Elterwater and walked down to the village.....

......passing a very quiet Brittania.

Elterwater Bridge

Having crossed the bridge we walked up the lane towards the quarry, stopping here for a look back across the valley to Megs Gill.

Industry and Tourism come together as we pass through the quarry with views towards the Langdale Pikes.

Eventually our path through the quarry joined the lane towards Baysbrown

The lane through Baysbrown Woods.

Looking across the valley as we leave the woods towards Chapel Stile.

Baysbrown

Our path us through the farm and into Hag Wood towards Oak Howe.

Oakhowe Crag and the Oak Howe Needle

Oak Howe Barn and it's decision time. It's either continue up the valley to the New Dungeon Ghyll and back to the car or return to Elterwater and walk down to Elter Water. With the knee and ankle in mind I plumped for the latter.

Oak Howe Cottage

The Langdale Pikes from the bridge over Great Langdale Beck at Oak Howe.

And again from our coffee stop a short way down the beck.

Sorry....but I've got to play with the zoom

Just the one tent at Baysbrown. It'll be a different story at the weekend if this weather holds.

A last look back from Baysbrown.

New Bridge at Chapel Stile.

Chapel Stile

Well!!!!.....did you have a go when you passed?

A peaceful Great Langdale beck.

We followed the beck back to Elterwater and then down to Elter Water.

The work at Elterwater continues.

As we made our way along the well trodden path to Elter Water we were greeted by Neil & Christine from Wigan. They are regular website viewers and are in the Lakes for a few days enjoying the splendid weather. Ellie the Westie wasn't at all impressed with Edith's doggy biscuits and just wanted to be on her way.

And a picture that Neil & Christine e_mailed us. Nice seeing you both.

Elter Water

The Langdales over Elter Water.

Elter Water panorama. Unfortunately the sun was playing hide & seek behind the clouds.

Loughrigg as we make our way back.

And finally.....a rather busier looking Brittania.
